How safe are Calgary transit riders feeling in 2024?

Calgary Police Services released new stats regarding transit. They said that violent crime on transit was up 15 per cent this time last year when compared to 2022 and previous years. Now the number has changed and the rate of violent crime has decreased by 38 per cent.

But many riders are not feeling as comfortable as they would like while taking buses or trains.

“If my younger sister would have to take transit by her self nowadays, I’d be pretty worried. its always concerning seeing the things that are happing on train platforms and around transit areas” – Aulden Bartlett, Transit rider.

Though violent crime is down many believe there can be more things done to ensure every feels safe.
