The City of Calgary has implemented a water restriction advisory. The rule will go straight into effect encouraging Calgarians to save water during this upcoming summer.

One way to reduce water in the summer is to be smart when doing yard work, watering grass, and washing their car. Calgarians can help save a little bit of water everyday and manager the water supply in the Bow river.

Calgarians are recommended to check the weather for upcoming rain so the use of water can be avoided, and the use of water barrels can be implemented.

In June, the city will review the water usage and decide if any changes are necessary.

The wildfire season has already started, as of April 19th there are currently 48 wildfires that are burning all around Alberta with 44 currently under control.

Approximately 70 per cent of wildfires that have broke out this year, have been suspected to have started from people.

The word drought may be concerning for most Calgarians, many obviously don’t want to run out of water. However, this restriction is a great wake up call for Calgarians so we can stay at a good water level all throughout the summer.

“At the City of Calgary, we’ve continued to reduce our water use and look for more ways to conserve water in our day-to-day operations,” says Calgary’s manager of natural environment and adaptation, Nicole Newton.
