Trojan athletes gearing up for year-end award show

Calgary, AB, Canada / RTBN

The book has closed for the 2023-24 SAIT Trojans as they look to wrap-up their season with a year-end award show and banquet on Thursday night.

The Trojans had quite a successful season taking home lots of hardware over the span of eight months, including: 29 ACAC medals, 12 of which were gold, 5 CCAA medals, 2 of which were gold, 32 ACAC All-Conference players, 11 ACAC player/rookie of the year, 6 CCAA players, 3 ACAC coach of the year with 2 of them being CCAA coach of the year.

Women’s Soccer and Futsal teams claimed both ACAC banners, the Women’s Curling team followed their ACAC gold medal win with a silver medal at the CCAA National Championship, the Men’s Golf team won their first banner since bringing the sport back in 2018, and both Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams are just a few of Trojan teams that walked away champions this past season.

The year-end gala is to take place in the Stand Grad building and the 350+ student athletes will be celebrating all their seasonal accomplishments, while also waiting to hear who is crowned the winners in separate categories like the leadership and humanitarian awards.

“Some of the major awards we hand out during our year-end celebration, are based on our three pillars, which is spirit, courage and determination and most of these awards have a sponsorship that has a deeper meaning, someone who has been a leader in the community, someone that has been a leader on and off the court or the ice, someone who has gone above and beyond to be a part of the Trojan community,” says SAIT Athletic Spokesperson, David Miguez.

While the season may be over, there is plenty of good to look back on for the Trojans as they continue to bring home more championships every season, and look to be one of the top spots in Alberta and in Canada to be a student athlete at.
