Trans Mountain Pipeline expansion nearing finish line

The expansion of the Trans Mountain Pipeline is finally nearing the end of the road, it was announced that the pipeline would begin filling with oil with plans to have the first export happen before Canada Day 2024.

“Time costs money. How projects get done in this country, to do it right… it adds to cost but that’s the way things have to be done.”

– Trans Mountain CFO Mark Maki

This expansion project is expected to triple Alberta’s oil output to the coast taking the province from it’s current rate of  300,000 barrels per day to 890,000 barrels per day.

When asked about the projects 34 billion dollar price tag, Trans Mountain CFO Mark Maki said “Time costs money. How projects get done in this country, to do it right… it adds to cost but that’s the way things have to be done.”

The original estimation for the project all the way back in 2018 was 7.4 billion dollars.

Alberta’s Premier Danielle Smith has since come out against the Canada Day deadline for the first export, saying that she believes it could be operational as soon as May.
