City crews are working hard to clear the plenty of snow and ice off from Calgary’s roads as more snowfall is expected on Thursday and Friday.
The City of Calgary and Environment Canada have released an update on Thursday morning, expecting around 10 centimeters of snowfall to accumulate over the course of the day.
“Low overnight temperatures could also lead to the formation of ice in certain areas,” the city said in their morning update.
With the anticipation of more snow, the city says crews are going to apply anti-icing agents to the many bridges, exit lanes and merging lanes, while also plowing snow and laying salt to help avoid any accidents on Calgary’s busy roads.

“Motorists are reminded to monitor changing weather conditions – snow covered roads, ice and visibility can be a factor in your commute. Prepare yourself before you head out, leave plenty of time to get to where you need to go and adapt to the changing weather,” the city said.
Calgary Transit has also announced the activation of snow detours on a few of Calgary’s routes.

“We understand that activating snow detours may increase walking distance in snowy conditions for some customers and take this into account when making the decision to activate them. Some bus routes might not be as heavily affected by snow or be cleared more quickly than others, but activating all snow detours at the same time, rather than waiting until buses get stuck, keeps transit and traffic flowing and provides predictability for people planning their commutes.” the city said in their update.
With about 30 centimeters of snow to fall over the course of this week, the city wants to remind Calgarians to use extra caution when driving and to leave early if travelling somewhere, and remind people to bundle up as frostbite is still at risk in this frigid temperatures.
