THE NEW OLYMPIC PLAZA

Olympic Plaza to Undergo $70M Transformation

One of Calgary’s most iconic public spaces is getting a major upgrade. The city has announced a $70 million revitalization project for Olympic Plaza, aiming to turn the 1988 Winter Games landmark into a vibrant, year-round gathering place.

Plans include a new permanent stage for performances, improved seating areas, upgraded lighting, and better accessibility for all visitors. The beloved skating rink will remain a key feature, but the redesign will make the plaza more versatile welcoming everything from concerts and festivals to community gatherings in all seasons.

City officials say the investment will breathe new life into Calgary’s downtown core, drawing more foot traffic and helping nearby businesses thrive.

The Olympic Plaza refresh is part of Calgary’s broader downtown strategy to modernize public spaces and create more reasons for people to live, work, and play in the city centre.
