U.S. President Donald Trump announced his latest round of tariffs.
Early Wednesday morning, Trump announced that he is imposing 104% tariffs on goods imported from China, and they quickly retaliated. The previous 34% tariffs were raised to 84% following Trump’s recent decision.
People around Calgary had mixed opinions on the matter.
“Honestly, I think it’s just stupid,”
“[Trump] doesn’t even know what he’s doing,” said Avril Harrison.
Another Calgarian believes China is taking a step in the right direction. “Hopefully, it changes the U.S. decision on these tariffs,” said Kaden Rothlander.
“I’m worried about what sort of ripple effect the United States’ isolationist policies will create for all the other countries that are, unfortunately, entwined with its economy,” said Anders Madsen.
Trump continues to make changes to U.S. tariff policies, updating the tariff increase against China to 125% later in the day. The trade war is ongoing and countries around the world are trying to push back.
