Blue Jays to start season against A.L East rival

Calgary, AB, Canada / RTBN

As tomorrow marks the official opening day for Major League Baseball, The Toronto Blue Jays will take the field against the Baltimore Orioles in a 4 game series. Although the Blue Jays haven’t had the most team success since 2020, they are undefeated in opening day games going all the way back to 2020.

Blue Jays Opening Day scores since 2020

Last year the Blue Jays had a disappointing season as they finished with a record of 74-88 which placed them at the very bottom of the A.L Standings

A.L Win Totals (2024)

The Jays, will throw their ace, Jose Berrios out on the field to pitch in their opening day match up. Last season, Berrios finished the year with an earned runs average of 3.60. Berrios will look to have another strong opening day performance after last year where he pitched 6 innings while only allowing 2 runs against.

The Blue Jays foe is very familiar in the Baltimore Orioles. Last season the Jays and Orioles played each other 13 times and Baltimore was able to take 7 wins in the season series back in 2024.

The Jays are looking to see big impacts from some of their free agent additions in this series. The big names that Toronto brought in include, Anthony Santander, Max Scherzer, and Jeff Hoffman. Santander, an outfielder who was brought in on a 5 year $92 million dollar contract, will be facing his former team, the Orioles in his first game as a Blue Jay. Last season, Santander had a very impressive season with the Orioles, which was a big reason the Blue Jays brought him in during the off-season to be a middle of the lineup hitter for the team.
