The City of Calgary announced Thursday that Calgary’s South Central Bus Garage project has entered the master planning stage.
The Garage will be built on two existing parcels of City-owned land in the community of Alyth/Bonnybrook/Manchester.
Calgary’s rapid growth in size and population has been identified as a factor in the necessity of accommodating the demand for efficient and sustainable transit services.
“A new South Central Bus Garage will replace the Victoria Park Garage, increasing bus maintenance and storage capacity to support the transit needs of Calgarians for years to come,” says Sheikh Hossain, Leader with Facility Planning.
Other changes that were highlighted by Calgary Transit were increasing fleet size.
Over the next 12-15 months of planning, more detailed concepts, technical requirements, and cost estimates for the project with be developed.
