Kevin Koe, 50, is curling his 13th Brier tournament, but has struggled to play like his old self.

Koe, representing Alberta for the 10th time, faced Manitoba’s Matt Dunstone in the Draw 1 on Friday. Despite trailing 3-0, Koe reeled the game back in 3-2, but in the 9th end, Dunstone nailed a triple to win 6-2.

Koe dropped the next 2 draws, with a 9-5 loss to John Epping of Northern Ontario, and a 5-4 loss to Reid Carruthers of Manitoba.

The Veteran skip earned his first 2 wins of the tournament on Monday, defeating Cameron de Jong of B.C. by a score of 8-5. He smoked Shane Latimer of Nunavut 10-2 to improve to a record of 2-3.

Koe is 5th in pool ‘A’, needing to win his final games to sneak into 3rd place in the pool, to play in the page qualifiers.
