Calgary, AB, Canada / RTBN

Bayly Scoffin and her Trojans teammate Raelyn Helston will once again represent the Yukon Territory, hitting the sheets in Thunder Bay, Ontario on February 14.

The pair curled their first Scotties in 2024 at WinSport Arena in Calgary, Alberta. This tournament was also the final Scotties for Manitoba legend Jennifer Jones.

Just days after competing in the Tournament of Hearts, Helston and Scoffin won the 2023-24 ACAC Women’s Curling Championship with the SAIT Trojans.

“I think it’s a huge feather in the cap for SAIT to be able to attract athletes that are at the top of their game in a Canadian sport.” Richard Stroobant, a SAIT instructor and Trojans curling commentator, emphasized his pride and joy in having SAIT students competing in a national sports tournament for 2  straight years. Stroobant remarked, “It’s mind boggling for them to be able to reach the best in Canadian sport and not only play on the Trojans, but are also on campus as students.”

In interviews with Stroobant 1 year ago, following the Trojans’ gold medal win, Raelyn Helston described her joy in playing against her childhood idols, but also remembering to stay composed, “You honestly just had to ignore who they were.” Helston then added, “at the end of the day, it’s just a set of rocks.”

The 2024-25 ACAC curling championship will be hosted by Red Deer Polytechnic, from February 7 to 9.
