Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) is taking the lead in raising awareness and sensitizing students on cyber security attacks. October is the national cybersecurity awareness month dedicated to the public and private sectors working together to raise awareness about the importance of cybersecurity risks.

Troy Davidson, Chief Information Security Officer at SAIT said cyber attackers used many ways to fraud people. One of the ways is sending urgent messages asking people to click on suspicious links that can hack them.

Davidson said everyone is at risk of cyber-attacks including our family members, businesspeople, and leaders and this can be a targeted or vulnerable attack. Hence raising awareness is so important in the workplace and personal life, But with use of multifactor authentication, updating advice, and changing the password regularly can reduce the amount of risk of being attacked.

Davidson cautioned people not to use one password in the multiple across services adding that cybersecurity is everyone’s business and daily responsibility awareness. The national cybersecurity awareness month runs from Oct.1st – 31st every year.
