The City of Calgary has officially begun construction on a state of the art twin rink facility in the southwest, with a budget of $85.6 million. This two-story arena will replace the existing single rink at Stu Peppard Arena in Glenmore.

The new facility will feature a range of amenities, including multiple conference rooms, a classroom, a multi-use room, a warmup area, and accessible washrooms for visitors. The first rink will accommodate up to 1,000 skaters, while the second rink will hold 300.

Set for completion by 2027, the project aims to prioritize energy efficiency with the installation of solar panels on the roof. This new arena is part of the city’s broader plan to increase the number of arenas and bookable spaces by 25% by 2050, in order to meet the needs of Calgary’s growing population.

City council approved the project in June 2021, emphasizing that it wasn’t just a response to aging infrastructure but also a step to meet the growing demand for ice time. The new facility aims to provide more spaces for Calgarians of all ages seniors, families, and children helping them stay active and connected in the community.
