Canada Post workers are back on the job after the Senate passed a legislation last night which ordered an end to the rotating strikes.
The government deemed this issue urgent due to the economic impacts of the strikes, especially at the start of holiday season.
After holding a meeting on Sunday, Senators took more time to reflect the decision to strip workers of their right to strike, but came to the verdict on Monday after 5 more hours of debate.
The Canada Union of Postal Workers issued a statement stating they’re “exploring all of their options to fight the legislation”.
Canada post said on Monday that the backlog of mail is severe and will only continue to worsen once online orders from Black Friday and Cyber Monday are processed, and despite the strikes coming to an end, delays are still expected all the way until January.
