There is no debate that Tom Wilson’s hit on Oskar Sundqvist was borderline, and after being suspended 3 times in the 2017-18 season, (including games 4, 5, 6 in the second round vs the Pens) the league wanted to send a message.
Wilson was handed a 20 game suspension as a result of the hit.
That wasn’t the only major suspension the league threw down. Preds forward Austin Watson was suspended 27 games for domestic abuse. Watson appealed and had his suspension reduced to 18 games.
Wilson also appealed his suspension with commissioner Garry Betman in a meeting that allegedly lasted 8 hours.
The NHL just announced today that Wilson’s 20 game suspension will be held up.
