Aga Khan receives highest academic honor from University of Calgary
The University of Calgary awarded their highest academic honor to His Highness the Aga Khan in a special ceremony today.
His Highness is the 49th hereditary Imam (spiritual leader) of the Shia Ismaili Muslims and an advocate for social and human development.
He received an Honorary Doctor of Laws Degree in recognition of his humanitarian work worldwide.
“His Highness is a living manifestation of how we must work together to support human advancement at home and around the world.”
The Universities President and Vice Chancellor, Elizabeth Cannon, described him as a “living legend and a model for every conscience.”

The University also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Aga Khan University which will continue their collaboration to further the disciplines of education, nursing, medicine and the arts.
