Premier Rachel Notley delivered a keynote speech on Tuesday morning at the 2018 International Pipeline Conference in Calgary.
During her speech, Notley called out Ottawa for stifling Canada’s economic aspirations, saying if Ottawa doesn’t pay enough attention, the damage to our economy will be long-lasting and it could affect our international reputation.
The premier highlighted that the federal government must find a way to build economic infrastructure, such as the controversial Trans Mountain Pipeline.
“The federal court of appeal decision ruling against the Trans Mountain Pipeline was a profound indictment of Ottawa’s ability to manage our economy in the interest of all Canadians and the frustration and the anger that it’s fuelling is quite real especially here in Alberta.”
Notley says the decision is jeopardizing the jobs and well- being of Canadian workers as well as costing our economy billions of dollars. Notley plans to emphasize the impact this decision will have on Alberta and is hoping she can sway Ottawa to reconsider the appeal.
