Meteorite found by University of Calgary researchers

University of Calgary researchers and international colleagues found meteorite remnants from the fireball that lit up our skies in early September.

Fabio Cicieri is a visiting student going for his masters of science at the University of Milan. Cicieri was the one who stumbled upon the first meteorite. Cicieri said he couldn’t believe he was looking down at a space rock, in his hands, after all these years of studying space.

Associate professor of geoscience at the University of Calgary Alan Hildebrand wanted to thank all the people who sent in videos of the fireball as it assisted with finding the fall zone.

The school will continue to look for more meteorites in the fall zone by Crawford Bay, BC.
