Friday November 3rd marks theĀ first day of construction on the Calgary Cancer Centre.

The 1.4 billion dollar project has been planned by the city for years and will be placed on the northwest end of the Foothills Medical Centre campus.

The facility will integrate care for cancer patients and research and education for the future of the disease.

The cancer centre will feature 160 inpatient beds, over 100 exam rooms and 12 radiation vaults.

Rachel Notley is in town for the groundbreaking ceremony and the project is expected to be complete in 2023.
