1995 Municipal Government Act updated

1995 Municipal Government Act updated

The province released its changes to the Municipal Government Act; the first update in over 20 years.

The updated act is looking to improve transparency of city councils, better collaboration between rural and urban centres, and a Code of Conduct for councilors.

President of the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association, Lisa Holmes, says the Albertans expect Provincial and Municipal governments to work together and the updated act is the first step.

The first Calgary City Council meeting is less than three weeks away so councilors new and old will have to familiarize themselves with the new rules in time.
