Alberta Parks Warns Public Following Cougar Sighting

Alberta Parks released a warning Friday afternoon informing those that choose to hike the Ha Ling Trail to be aware of cougars.

Multiple cougar sightings have been reported on the trail just southwest of Canmore and want to ensure everyone in the area knows what to do if an encounter occurs.

Alberta Parks released the following tips when hiking in the area:

  • Make plenty of noise and travel in a tight group. Keep children close.
  • Be aware of your surroundings. Leave the area if you see or smell a carcass.
  • Keep your pet on a leash at all times.
  • Carry bear spray. Ensure it is easily accessible and know how to use it.

The park did not confirm whether the trail was to be closed on Friday night.
