Racist nursing textbook takes heat in social media

A university nursing textbook is being called racist after social media users found a section that describes how different minorities will react to pain. The section includes Muslims, Blacks, Asians, Jews, Hispanics and Native Americans.

The section describes in point form how “Blacks Believe suffering and pain are inevitable.”, “Jews may be vocal and demanding of assistance.” and “Hispanics may believe that pain is a form of punishment and that suffering must be endured if they are to enter heaven.

Publisher of the book, Pearson, Issued an apology, “While differences in cultural attitudes toward pain is an important topic in medical programs, the table from this nursing text did not present the information in an appropriate manner. We apologize for the offense this has caused, and we have removed the material in question…”
