The Calgary Foothills Soccer club has a brand new indoor facility to practice in and the best Women’s league this side of the Atlantic to play in.
Foothills played it’s first season in the United Women’s Soccer League last summer and came in second in the West Conference with 4 wins, 3 losses, and 1 tie.
The green and white is the first Canadian team to join the league and Head Coach and Director of the Girls Academy Troye Flannery says, “We are breaking ground and leading the way to a better future for women’s soccer in Canada. We want to provide opportunities for young men and women not just abroad but also here at home.”
The League is open to players of all ages which is great for those girls that have yet to graduate high school.
Mya Jones is in Grade 11 and played with Foothills in it’s inaugural season at the age of 15.
She says, “I’ve played Youth National and this is just a higher level. The women are super intense, super aggressive and it really just improves my game.”
Jones has already committed to playing soccer with the University of Memphis, playing on the field with Current post-secondary and professionals is sure to help her adjust to the next level.
The last day of tryouts are Friday, April 6th at the Foothills Soccer Club ‘s Facility at 6pm.
