This morning in Austria, a technical fault caused an explosion and fire that ripped through a main gas pipeline hub prompting Italy into a state of emergency as flows from the strategic site were cut off.
Gas Connect is Austria says one person has been killed.
18 people were injured according to a fire brigade spokesman, but a police spokesman says up to 21 people were injured.
The explosion has since been contained into several small fires.
The pipeline hub supplies Hungary, Slovenia, and Croatia, but also Baumgarten’s biggest recipient, Italy.
Only Austrian Authorities can conduct a damage assessment once it’s safe, but Gas Connect Austria assure supplies will resume as soon as possible.
