Parks Canada has issued a warning about Avalanches this week and weekend. Banff, Yoho and Kootenay National Parks are the most affected areas, in lieu of the the first major avalanche cycle. The public is being advised to avoid these avalanche areas as widespread avalanche activity is expected. The danger ratings are all listed as high Parks Canada’s website. Human triggered avalanches are also very possible. The warm weather front coming in is another factor in the avalanche possibilities. Over the past 30 years avalanche’s have been responsible for 329 deaths in Canada. The average deaths by avalanche in Canada is about 14 per year.
