The SAIT Trojans handed out their awards of the week for the games taking place from October 26-29.
SAIT Trojans Male Athlete of the Week- Matthew Travaglini – Men’s Cross Country Team
Travaglini won the Men’s individual title at the ACAC Cross-Country Running Championships in Red Deer this weekend. This finished a season that saw him win every race he competed in. In Saturday’s 8km race the third year runner set a new school record finishing with a time of 26:18. Travaglini’s win helped the Trojans finish at the top of the podium this weekend for the second consecutive year.
SAIT Trojans Female Athlete of the Week – Ricki Christopher – Women’s Cross Country Team
Christopher won the silver medal on Saturday at the ACAC Cross-Country Running Championships which was the first time a Trojan has reached the podium since 2006. Her time of 24:37 in the 6km race helped the Trojan’s team win a silver medal finishing three points back of Red Deer College. Christopher trained on her own for the semester while she was on her practicum in Medicine Hat, Alberta.
SAIT Trojans Trojan of the Week – Conner Stevens – SAIT Trojans Men’s Soccer
Steven’s helped the Men’s Soccer Team capture bronze at the ACAC Men’s Soccer Championships. He was the Trojan’s best player in their 2-0 semifinal loss and set the tone early in their 1-0 win over the Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder to win the bronze.
SAIT Trojans Team of the Week – SAIT Trojan’s Men’s Cross Country Team
The Men’s Cross Country dominated on the weekend sweeping the podium at the ACAC Cross Country Running Championships in Red Deer, Alberta. Matthew Travaglini, Jacques Saayman, and Daryl Ross were the second trio to finish 1-2-3 since Lethbridge College did in 2009. The Trojans had five runners in the top ten.
